If you are a truck driver and you happen to own your own vehicle, you might be looking for openings for various owner/operator truck driving opportunities that you can take advantage of. You want to be able to find an opportunity that will let you make the money you need to support yourself and your family. So, how can you find the various openings or opportunities that you can take advantage of?
Trade Publications
One of the places you can go to look for openings for owner/operators is trade publications. There are likely to be ads in those publications that you can take a look at. Many of the various publications will also have an online component, and those sites will have more up-to-date information that you can take advantage of. You may also be able to sign up for forums where you can talk to other drivers and to other owner/operators so that you can see what strategies they use, as well as what places they suggest you try. Networking is always a good idea.
Trade Schools
Another option is to go check out various trade schools in your area. Any school that offers truck driving courses may have job opportunities posted. Do be aware that they may have particular postings that are only available to people who are learning at their school, and they may delay the posting of other opportunities until their students get the first crack at them. It will never hurt to go see what the school will offer, because the worst they can tell you is no, and you aren't going to be any worse off than you are before you go check them out.
Companies
You can also contact the trucking companies in your area to see what they have to offer, and let them know what you have to offer. If the company doesn't have any contracts for owner/operators currently, then you may be able to leave your name and number with them so that when they do have openings, they can contact you and offer you a contract. You may want to make sure that you are flexible on what kind of routes you are looking for because that can give you a better choice when it comes to an opening.
If you are an owner/operator and you are trying to find the right opportunity for you, there are various ways that you can do that.

You also need to plan ahead, hire good people, and put a lot of resources into good marketing. Of course, this all sounds good ― but actually implementing these practices can be a bit harder. The best thing you can therefore do as business owner is always strive to do better. Learn a little more every day, and then apply what you learn. We want this website to serve as one source of information as you go about your learning.
